Continuing to spread out stellar wine tasting opportunities between a couple weekends instead of just one is a Holiday Barrel Tasting courtesy of Walla Walla Valley Wine Alliance. Running from Friday, December 1 through Sunday, December 3 Washington's east side wineries are swinging open their cellar doors, popping barrel bungholes and impressing visitors with ample wine thief photo ops.
Sample future releases in a festive town all decked out for the holiday season. Food, art, music and more will greet wine tasters at every turn to help you cross off the nice (and the naughty) on your Christmas list.
Vertical tastings (like the one at K Vintners) pair fun with a little education as guests sample multiple vintages from single wineries to better understand how aging, weather differences from year to year and other factors affect a wine's flavor profile.
Many wineries such as L'Ecole No. 41 and Saviah will have select nibbles to accompany their wines. Always a great experience to see how the introduction of food changes a wine.
So, take a drive or hop on a flight (Washington wines fly free on Alaska Airlines). Walla Walla Valley wines are worth the trip!
